Pitti Filati Autumn/Winter 2012

Last week Cast went to Pitti Filati in Florence, which is the first event in our Autumn/Winter calender.

We worked on the exhibition stand for Millefili. Their inspiration this year was all about connections and mixing tradition with technology. Several of our fabrics featured on the stand.

The yarn collection was full of rich vegetable tones with a very lux feel. Love it or hate it chenille made a comeback to compliment the plush velvet textures seen on the catwalks this year. Also a strong focus on neps, brightly coloured and sparce or concentrated in tonal colours.

Blue Majorelle

At Cast we are passionate taking inspiration from the world around us and what we're lucky enough see on our travels around the world, one of our favorites being Jardin Majorelle, Marrakech. The stunning location being the paradise of Yves Saint Laurent.
Take note of the wonderful majorelle blue, and it's mystical properties.

So you can imagine our excitement at the launch of YSL's limited edition nail varnishes in our favourite shade of blue, Majorelle!A simple way to add a little exoticism to your summer wardrobe, and carry you through to autumn/winter!

We also love Blanc Symbolist, the white hot shade set to be the fail safe of the summer.
Go on treat yourself, available from May exclusive to Selfridges.

All that glitters...

Today at Cast we've been looking at timeless jewellery, some of the interesting materials that contemporary designers use in their creations, and how they embrace nature either by their materials and aesthetics. Despite some of the obscurities, all these accessories are a moment of beauty...

Tiffany Rowe is a 'scientific' jewellery designer who always aspired to be in Vogue instead of the biology lab, but somehow she's successfully managed to combine science into her creations. She's known to use laboratory apparatus, organic matter  and bin liners, but have been transformed into beautiful works of art. Some of her jewellery only exists for a short time but stays alive through photography. Here are our favourites!

Delfina Dellettres is part of the fourth generation of the Fendi family, and is a renowned jewellery maker. She works with gold, silver, iron, copper, marble, ceramics, exotic woods, glass crystals and organic materials including bones! Creativity certainly runs through the Fendi family, and Delfina's jewellery designs are playful yet romantic.

Ayaka Nishi is a jewellery designer who is inspired by all things natural. She is a Japanese designer who handcrafts all her creations. Ayaka Nishi says she 'endeavors to create jewellery of unparallelled beauty and exquisite craftsmanship'.

Mawi's jewellery is inspired by his collections of antique trinkets. They provide an 'ornamental meeting ground for the past, present and future'. The designs use botanical shapes but with edgy skulls.

Colour appreciation...

At Cast we love a bit of colour, and with Pantone releasing 336 new colours we thought we'd brighten your day with some pantone apprieciation! From saturated magenta's, to fruity limes, we have discovered these bold uses of colour in the form of sculptures, architecture and street art.

This is Shinkin Bank (a credit union located in Shimura, Japan) designed by French architect Emmanuelle Moureaux. At night the vibrant slabs are illuminated according to the weather conditions. We love how the colours create a link with nature by graduating into the sky.

These are thread sculptures named 'String Theory' by Mexican artist Gabriel Dawe. We love the kaleidoscopic infusions of colour and psychedelic patterns.

Matt W. Moore's graphic designs have been described as 'Vectorfunk' and with this mural in downtown Cincinnati,  MWM has definitely lived up to his name. The geometric mural is titled 'Hot vs Cold' and we love the lava like abstract shards being swallowed by the sharp icy blues.

Blank page

There's nothing scarier than a blank page, and this is no different so we may as well get started.
Welcome to the world of CAST CREATIONS, a knitwear studio based in the United Kingdom. We like to stay personal with our colleagues, existing and future so we wanted to create a space where you could see us at work, the things inspiring us and hopefully things which may inspire you to. Happy reading.
